Mere Brother Ki Dulhan collected Rs 26 crores over the opening weekend.

MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN Gets Good Opening

Despite being a conventional fare, Yash Raj's Mere Brother Ki Dulhan collected Rs 26 crores over the opening weekend.

Being the solo release of the week has its advantage. Yash Raj Films' predictable-to-the-core flick Mere Brother Ki Dulhan made in the typical template of shaadi-baarat managed to get a good opening. While the film had nothing new to offer, audiences too had nothing else to watch.

MBKD managed to earn Rs 26 crores in its opening weekend which is a decent figure for the scale at which it's made. Being the only release of the week, it continues to fare decent.

MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN FILM REVIEW

Katrina Kaif is a star. Bollywood really hasn’t played host to a bigger female celebrity since Madhuri Dixit; a stunner who can command a huge opening weekend, guarantee box-office success and effortlessly provide the viewer his money’s worth just by flashing a smile or knocking a thumka clear out of the park. Who cares if the film was trashy? Katrina wore a mini in it!
While that’s the public perception of the half-Caucasian girl, it is heartening to see Madame Sheila herself not being content with only being a picture-perfect showpiece, and hence trying her level best to experiment with roles and try to become an actual actress. Clearly, her ex-boyfriend, whose Bodyguard created moneymaking history for the industry last week, needs a lesson on craft dedication from her. Katrina Kaif is learning how to act, even when she seems to be doing just fine without it.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the most important thing about Yash Raj’s latest Mere Brother Ki Dulhan in which our Ali Zafar plays big brother to Kush (Imran Khan) in a film that dedicatedly sticks to its masala roots. So younger brother Kush is out to find a bride for his elder brother Luv (Why would you name your characters thus?) and finally hits upon the perfect bride in the form of Dimple (Katrina Kaif).
There is not much of a story to tell after that, which is why you might end up finding yourself either fairly amused or completely bored. However the general likeability surrounding the proceedings, especially in the first half, is undeniable, thanks to director Ali Abbas Zafar. Much credit also goes to some engaging music, witty dialogues and the three main actors.
Our Pakistani export, Ali Zafar, might just be the first actor from this side of the border to have actually made a mark on India’s film industry. He is, without a bias, the pick of the lot as he seems remarkably at ease in a role that requires both charisma and great timing. Zafar, surprisingly, has both, and he gets to shake a leg with Katrina. Quite a lottery for our Channo-boy!
Imran Khan – always looking like he’s ready to endorse Ponds cream or a vanilla ice-cream – does well, in spite of not having the typical ‘hero’ image that the film could have benefited from. Khan seems to know that acting is not his strength just yet and that works in his favour, as he doesn’t try too hard and you end up warming up to him.
And finally, back to the lady — Katrina Kaif actually does rather well in this film. Though most of her A-league contemporaries still command a better hold of the craft, Kaif might not be behind for too long now.
As for the film in itself, it’s endearing and funny because of its unpretentious ‘entertainer’ roots, but Ali Abbas ends up stretching the tale and the second half is nowhere near as much fun as the first. Originality and subtlety are nowhere to be found in a theatre screening this film but if that’s what you are looking for, I suggest you don’t enter it in the first place.
I am going with 3 out of 5 for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. An unmemorable film that makes for a pleasant weekend outing, it’s a full-blown ode to the most outdated love triangle template of Bollywood.

Ali zafar beat Katrina Kaif

As we all know that “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” is a musical romantic comedy and Ali Zafar will be seen singing and strumming the guitar for his fiancĂ© (Katrina Kaif) in the film. We have already reported that Ali will be singing three songs in the film, one of them will be a rock song.

The married 30-year old said:

Just got done recording a Rock song at Yash Raj studios. Amazing set up and engineers to work with. Will update more on it later.

Katrina Kaif, the leading actress of the film is also busy learning how to play the guitar from the Prince of Pop. Incidentally, Ali Zafar is a professional guitar player and is teaching Katrina how to play the instrument.

Unit sources inform that Katrina is thoroughly enjoying her music lessons. The actress has learnt four chords and is planning to use her skills in a scene in the movie.

Ali said:

She wants to be a rock star by the end of the shoot, she’s a quick learner. She’s promised me that if our film does a business of Rs 60 crore, she will do a music video with me.

We usually only see heroes strumming the guitar but this will be the first time when a heroine will be playing an instrument on screen. The film is scheduled for a mid-2011 release.

The actor and Ali Zafar meet up. Salman Khan even sported a promotional T-shirt for the latter's upcoming film even though it read 'Ullu Di Patthi'

Salman Khan had a special guest at his Bandra home on Monday night. Pakistani musician Ali Zafar, who makes his acting debut with Tere Bin Laden, was at the star's place. The duo sang and jammed together besides watching the film. And Sallu, in his characteristic style, even removed his shirt for him!

The singer-turned-actor was accompanied by the film's producer Pooja Shetty Deora.

Says Pakistan's king of pop, "Pooja was showing him the T-shirt which we are using as part of the promotions. Suddenly, Salman took off what he was wearing to wear the T-shirt. He didn't mind wearing it even though it read: 'Good Looking Ullu Di Patthi!' Pooja promised to send him another one which read 'Good Looking Ullu Da Pattha'!

Ali, who is best known for his tracks like Channo, Rangeen, Chal Dil Merey, Masty and Sajania, is in Mumbai for the film's publicity till its release on July 16.

"It was my first interaction with the star. But Salman was extremely cool and chilled out. We spoke a lot about music, the movie and sang aloud. He actually sang for me! He said he had thorougly enjoyed watching the film and felt it was super."

Though Ali is working on his new compostions, he is keeping his optons open about being an actor as well. "The response to the film which has been directed by Abhishek Sharma has been heartening," he adds. "I am looking forward to its release. It's a satire and a fun film."
